Commerce Minister Addresses Accusations of Obstructing Legislative Proceedings; Provides Documentation Validating Cancellation of His Travels

Liberia’s Commerce Minister Amin Modad addressed concerns about the price of a 25kg bag of rice during his appearance before the House of Representatives Plenary on June 4, 2024.

He clarified that the price remains at US$16.75 and affirmed that any price changes would be dealt with accordingly. President Joseph Boakai’s efforts to maintain price stability for essential commodities were highlighted, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting consumers.

Minister Modad expressed regret for inconsistencies in his communication and assured cooperation with the House. He also provided documentation to validate the cancellation of his travels, addressing accusations of obstructing proceedings. As a result, the House of Representatives unanimously decided to pardon him of contempt charges.
