Liberia Receives Substantial Donation from Japan to Bolster Food Security

In a significant display of international cooperation, the Government of Liberia recently received a substantial donation from the Government of Japan. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, the generous contribution, valued at US$1.5 million, was officially handed over at a ceremony on June 18, 2024, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Monrovia.

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gabriel H. Salee who accepted the donation on behalf of President Joe Boakai expressed profound gratitude to Japan, noting that this aligns with Liberia’s ARREST Agenda and bolsters food security across the country.

Ambassador Hisanobu, representing Japan, highlighted the shared commitment to sustainable development and improving the livelihoods of the people. This donation, according to the ambassador, is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to ensure food security and support vulnerable populations.

The Ministry however extends its heartfelt thanks to Japan for its unwavering support and solidarity, stating that the partnership between the two nations strengthens the bonds and showcases how international cooperation can address global challenges.

They also announced that the rice will be distributed in the coming weeks, reaching those in greatest need and contributing to the nation’s food security efforts.
