Monrovia, Liberia – In a recent development, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti has publicly acknowledged former President George Weah’s significant contributions to maintaining peace and stability in Liberia. In a heartfelt letter, she expressed the government’s gratitude for Weah’s continuous commitment to peace, stating, “Your global presence as a peace ambassador has fortified Liberia’s position on the world stage and brought pride and honor to our nation.”
Minister Nyanti’s commendation comes when some political figures, including Senator Abraham Darius Dillon and Mo Ali, have been vocal on social media, questioning Weah’s influence and contributions. Critics argue that these actions undermine the peace and stability that Weah has worked hard to maintain.
Supporters of Weah, including many within the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), have expressed their frustration with the ongoing disrespect. They argue that if more government officials shared Minister Nyanti’s perspective, the current discord would not exist. “If other Ministers and Directors were thinking like the foreign minister, the disrespect shown to Weah wouldn’t have happened in the first place,” a CDC supporter commented.
Senator Dillon and Mo Ali have taken to Facebook to downplay the significance of Minister Nyanti’s letter, suggesting that it does not validate Weah’s status as a key figure in Liberia’s peace efforts. This stance has sparked a campaign among Weah’s supporters, urging him not to honor the letter, viewing it as a continuation of the disrespect that has been directed towards him.
