The Liberia Immigration Service recently uncovered a startling revelation during a personnel audit conducted by the new Administration. The audit revealed the existence of 148 ghost officers within the institution, shedding light on potential fraudulent activities within the payroll system.
Commissioner General Stephen Zargo, addressing the issue at the Ministry of Information Regular Press briefing, expressed concern over the discrepancy between the reported 2,348 personnel and the actual findings of the audit. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the whereabouts of the salaries allocated to these ghost officers.
In addition to the ghost officers, Zargo highlighted the pressing issue of low remuneration for immigration officers, noting that they receive a meager USD 160 monthly. This revelation underscores the challenges faced by those tasked with safeguarding the nation’s borders and enforcing immigration laws.
