Capitol Hill-Monrovia- The Liberian Senate has tasked its committee on Ways, Means, Finance, and Budget to scrutinize the 2025 National Budget, totaling US$851.76 million. Submitted by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to Senate Pro-Temp Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence on November 18, 2024, the budget’s domestic resource envelope accounts for USD 791.76 million, or 93% of the total.
Key budget allocations include:
- Roads and Infrastructure: US$52.9 million for rural road rehabilitation, bailey bridge construction, and key road corridors.
- Pliable Road Program: US$15 million.
- Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP): Increased from FY2024’s US$67.4 million to US$98 million in FY2025.
Additionally, over US$16 million is allocated to address remuneration challenges in the public sector, benefiting health, agriculture, security, and education volunteers with salary top-ups ranging from US$25 to US$50 per month.
President Boakai acknowledged that these measures are the first steps in a multi-year effort under the ARREST agenda to address public sector remuneration issues. He also mentioned upcoming reforms in the revenue and tax administration system to clarify income tax regulations.
