Monrovia – The National First-Time Voters of Liberia CDC and the National Foot Soldiers of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) have declared their support for the peaceful assembly organized by Concern Liberians, scheduled for Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
In a press statement, Cyrus Barromi Davis II, Chairman of the National First Time Voters of Liberia CDC, condemned the recent acts of unlawfulness at the Capitol Building, stating that these actions undermine the democratic values of the state and threaten the foundation of Liberia’s electoral process. Davis emphasized the group’s commitment to democracy, civic engagement, and the importance of every voice being heard. He called on all first-time voters and citizens who believe in peaceful assembly to join the historic demonstration at the Capitol Building.
Davis highlighted that the protest aims to demand the House of Representatives cease unlawful proceedings that are holding the country and economy hostage. He urged all Liberians, particularly first-time voters, to stand up for their rights and ensure the government is held accountable. The protest is set to begin at 7 am, with participants encouraged to bring signs, wear comfortable clothing, and engage in a respectful and peaceful demonstration.
Meanwhile, Solomon Sims, Chairman of the National Foot Soldiers-CDC, also announced their support for the assembly. During a press conference in Monrovia, Sims stressed the importance of speaking out against injustices, stating, “There are times when the silence of good men and women becomes a necessary ingredient for the deeds of evil men to germinate and flourish.”
Sims criticized the current government for failing to deliver on its promises since taking office under the guise of a “Rescue Mission.” He accused the government of political witch-hunts, unresolved issues from the previous administration, and disrespecting court orders. Sims also lamented the high unemployment rate, economic policies, and the dismissal of civil servants who were not partisans of the Unity Party.
Both the National First Time Voters of Liberia CDC and the National Foot Soldiers-CDC see these actions as evidence of the oppressive rule of the Unity Party-led government and refuse to remain silent. They have called on their members across the fifteen counties to join the assembly on December 17, 2024, to send a clear message to the government: “Enough is enough.”
Enough is enough for their disrespect for the rule of law.
