Monrovia, Liberia – In an exchange on the OK FM Afternoon Conversation talk show, Nimba County Representative Samuel Kogar threatened journalist Julius Jeh, accusing him of inciting the Liberian public against the government. The incident occurred while Jeh was analyzing the ongoing legislative crisis at the Capitol.
Rep. Kogar criticized Jeh’s analysis, arguing that it misled the public about the situation at the Capitol. Kogar insisted that Jeh should have presented the facts that make the Majority Bloc, whose actions the Supreme Court has termed illegal, look good to the Liberian people. He further threatened to use his legislative power to summon the management of OK FM if Jeh continued to inform the public about the lawlessness of the majority bloc, which Kogar chairs.
In response, OK FM management condemned Kogar’s threats, viewing them as an attempt to intimidate Jeh into self-censorship. They emphasized that Jeh’s analysis adhered to journalistic principles and did not tarnish the House’s reputation. The management highlighted that the lawmakers’ actions had already brought disrepute to the legislative body. They also criticized Kogar’s comparison of their broadcast to the Rwandan genocide, calling it “clueless and uncivilized.”
Meanwhile, fellow Nimba County Lawmaker Taa Wongbe publicly criticized Kogar’s conduct during the interview. Wongbe expressed concern over Kogar’s threatening behavior, stating that it tarnished Nimba’s reputation and dishonored the legislative body. He emphasized that Kogar’s actions did not reflect the values of good leadership that the legislature strives to uphold.
In a gesture of goodwill, Wongbe extended a public apology to Jeh, assuring that Kogar’s actions did not represent the principles of responsible and respectful governance.
