Monrovia, Liberia – Manja Varney Gbassey Kromah, National Chairman of the Green Revolution of Liberia, has called for the immediate investigation and prosecution of former Associate Justice Kabineh M. Ja’neh. Kromah accuses Ja’neh of treasonable acts aimed at releasing Ibrahim Kalil Cherif, a Guinean mercenary charged with serious crimes.
Kromah claims Ja’neh, serving as Cherif’s defense counsel, has taken actions threatening Liberia’s national security. Cherif, indicted for mercenaries and other crimes, fled to Liberia after a failed terrorist attack in Guinea. He was apprehended at the Liberia-Guinea border and is now under Liberian custody.
Kromah alleges Ja’neh, previously dismissed from the case for ethical breaches, has resorted to dangerous tactics to secure Cherif’s release, including making false public statements accusing the Liberian Government of plotting to kill Cherif. These claims have jeopardized the lives of key government officials and raised concerns about Ja’neh’s connections to rebel groups.
The Guinean Government has expressed concerns that Liberia is harboring a traitor, further straining diplomatic relations. Kromah emphasizes that Ja’neh’s actions are not just legal matters but national security concerns, pointing to Ja’neh’s connections to Cherif and his past involvement with rebel groups.
Kromah urges the Liberian Government to arrest and prosecute Ja’neh, warning that his actions could have severe consequences for Liberia’s national security and its relations with Guinea. The Green Revolution of Liberia, under Kromah’s leadership, remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability for those undermining the country’s security.
Kromah categorically dismissed Ja’neh’s recent claims regarding Cherif’s detention as false and misleading, accusing Ja’neh of attempting to incite chaos. The movement emphasized that Cherif is under protective observation by Liberian security forces and has not been transferred to Guinean authorities.
The situation has caused growing diplomatic friction, with Guinea increasing its military presence along the border. Kromah expressed concerns over Ja’neh’s past involvement with LURD rebels and warned Liberians against figures like Ja’neh, who may exploit past conflicts for personal gain.
Kromah urged the Liberian government and law enforcement to exercise caution in investigating Cherif’s activities, warning that missteps could jeopardize the safety of Liberians and the broader peace in the Mano River Basin.
