FreedomNews:
Former President George Weah has recently voiced strong concerns regarding the current administration under President Joseph Boakai, accusing it of employing the judicial system as a tool for political retribution against officials from his government. Weah, who leads the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), characterized the actions of the new administration as a “witch hunt,” suggesting that they represent a deliberate and unfair targeting of his party’s members.
Weah’s allegations point to a broader issue he perceives in the Boakai government—a misuse of judicial authority that he argues undermines the fundamental principles of the rule of law. He made it clear that the CDC does not intend to remain passive in the face of these developments. Instead, he has pledged to mobilize his supporters politically and legally to counter what he terms the unacceptable actions of the United Party (UP) government.
Moreover, Weah has called on other political entities to join in this resistance, stressing the importance of a united front against perceived injustices. He highlighted the need for comprehensive audits that are equally applied rather than selectively targeting individuals associated with his administration.
In a bid to escalate his message beyond national boundaries, Weah plans to alert the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and other international organizations about the alleged targeting of his former officials. This move illustrates a significant step in advocating for accountability and fairness in Liberia’s political landscape, emphasizing the necessity of upholding democratic values and the rule of law.
The situation remains fluid as tensions mount between the CDC and the Boakai administration, setting the stage for potential shifts in Liberia’s political dynamics.
